A: A good example of the miscommunication that can happen in couples! You are the one who is keen on movies. Women are often not effective in asking for what they want - they expect their partner to mind-read. You make your indirect suggestion and your boyfriend isn’t so keen on going to see a movie and says no. He doesn’t recognize the importance of the question for you. You take this as a personal affront and get upset. If you want something you ask for it directly e.g. “I would like to go and see 'Bewitched' tonight - would you?" He now has a choice - he can say no (he is rejecting the event NOT you), leaving you free to arrange to see the film with a girlfriend or alone, OR he agrees to see the movie because he realizes that it is something that you would like to do and he wants to please you. Direct clear communication works best! Men are very bad at mind-reading!
