JANE's Advice
July 2005

1. My boyfriend says that I am frigid because I don't have an orgasm when we have intercourse.

The reality of the situation is that the majority of women cannot achieve orgasm by penetration alone. Additional stimulation of the woman's clitoris is necessary - this can be achieved by the use of the man's/ woman's fingers or a vibrator. Oral foreplay by the partner can also help a woman achieve orgasm.

2. When I make love to my wife I sometimes fantasize that I am making love to Angelina Jolie - am I being unfaithful to my wife? I really love my wife and really enjoy our sex life together. Do I have a problem?

You don't have a problem! A man / woman can be sexually attracted to many people -not only their marriage partner. If they are in a committed monogamous relationship with their marriage partner they will not choose to pursue extramarital relationships. However, fantasising can be of great value in introducing more variety and excitement into relationships. Some couples are comfortable with sharing their fantasies with one another, but it is equally acceptable to keep one's fantasies to ones self.

3. I would love it if my boyfriend sent me flowers but he doesn't. In every other way he is really loving and caring. Does this mean he is not the right one for me?

You say that in other ways your boyfriend is loving and caring. Maybe you haven't told your boyfriend how much the gift of flowers means to you as a token of his love for you. We all have different expectations in relationships .For your boyfriend, flowers may have little meaning and value. For you, however, they do. It is important in relationships to be able to educate our partners in what is meaningful FOR US. Hoping that our partner will be able to 'mind read ' our expectations and desires is a certain recipe for disappointment and discontentment.

Best of Luck!
