A: Sadly, many Singaporean women see abortion as a form of contraception. It's not. The pill or the coil or the cap or condoms are protection against pregnancy (and only condoms protect against the risk of contracting STDs such as HIV, herpes and warts!). I suggest you talk about this subject further with your friend and recommend she discusses which contraception is best for her with her family doctor or gynaecologist. Not only is she risking the trauma and long-term emotional issues associated with abortion, but also her life - STDs can kill.
