Q1: If I stick to one sexual partner do we need to use condoms?

A1: If for any reason you are thinking of not using condoms think about the following:-

  1. You can have a sexually transmitted infection, including HIV, but look and feel well and have no symptoms. Many people will not know for sure whether they or their partner have a sexually transmitted infection. The only way to find out if you have any sexually transmitted infections is to have a test.
  2. The more partners you have unprotected sex with the more likely you are to come into contact with a STD. It is always safer to use a condom and only stop using them when you are sure that neither you or your partner or partners have an infection. Consider having regular check-ups at a sexual health clinic.

Q2: How safe is Oral Sex?

A2: Oral Sex is where one partner uses their tongue or mouth to excite their partner's sexual parts (genitals). There is a small risk of HIV infection through oral sex. Therefore, there are mouth guards for sale to protect you from contact. But Oral Sex is considered less risky than unprotected vaginal sex without a condom.

Q3: Is skin piercing dangerous?

A3: Anything that breaks the skin, including tattooing acupuncture needles, equipment used for ear or body piercing, and hair removal by electrolysis, could pass on HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or other infections. Therefore, only go to a professional who uses sterile equipment or new equipment for each customer. Ask if you're not sure and only go ahead if you are certain that they are using safe, hygienic equipment.
